Understanding draw types
IRCC holds several kinds of draws. Provincial Nominee Program draws invite candidates with a provincial nomination, which adds 600 points, so cut-offs are very high. Canadian Experience Class draws target people with Canadian work experience. Category-based draws invite candidates with French-language skills or experience in priority occupations such as health care, trades, STEM or transport, often with lower cut-off scores than general draws.

How to improve your chances of an invitation
The most effective ways to raise a CRS score are improving official language test results, since higher CLB levels add points across several factors; gaining another year of skilled work experience; completing additional education or getting a foreign credential assessed; and securing a provincial nomination, which adds 600 points and virtually guarantees an invitation. Candidates who are eligible for a category-based draw — for example, those with strong French skills or experience in a targeted occupation — should make sure their profile reflects it, because those draws often have much lower cut-offs. Profiles stay in the pool for 12 months and can be updated at any time.
